Bric-a-brac, cakes and St George at the Crown

The weather was unkind with downpours that soaked everyone and everything and yet £88 pounds was raised for St Mary's Church, Winterborne Stickland on Saturday. Even the arrival of St George was postponed due to the weather but still the cake  and bric-a-brac tables were valiently manned by a number of hardy volunteers.

Tasting the produce is always a necessary duty for those who volunteer to sell the cakes.

Some people were easily distracted by the vintage cars and the cidar stall.
Others took shelter where they could when the going got tough (and the rain got heavy!).
Eventually the dragon made an appearance but St George had lost his horse and was a little distracted reading the Freeads!

Desert Island preamble to Holy Week - St Mary's Winterborne Whitechurch.

What an excellent start to Holy Week. The combination of the well-known formula of ‘Desert Island Discs’ with two of our well-known musicians, made for an evening of gentle conversation and snippets of wonderful music. The conversation centred around Gerry and James and their childhood, school and work experiences – and how music and spirituality were interwoven throughout. Their amiable, warm presentation both informed and entertained all those who attended.
